A Measured Life in Comox
by David Durrant
‍
At ten, I learned that knowing begins not in self, but in the act of showing up for others.
At twenty, I shed certainty, took duty in its stead, lent my strength to the common good, and discovered that service exacts more than ambition.
At thirty, at forty, I spent long days building, standing where need was greatest, so my community might stand taller.
At fifty, at sixty, I left comfort behind, offering experience, patience, and voice to steady those who follow.
Now, seventy, I pay forward what cannot be bought or inherited: the quiet strength of showing up, the courage to serve before leading, and the enduring truth that a measured life is written in the hearts of others.

Rooted in the Comox Valley and committed to lifelong learning. A proud graduate of Brooklyn Elementary, Robb Road Junior Secondary, and George P. Vanier Senior Secondary; a graduate of the University of Alberta; holder of Local Government Certification from Capilano University; and a Master's degree in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University, specializing in municipal preparedness, response, and recovery. Prepared through education, forged through experience, and proven through public service. A career built at the intersection of government, community, and innovation, spanning the Canadian Coast Guard; leadership roles with Lax Kwʼalaams, Cold Lake, Comox, and Cumberland; global renewable energy companies Vestas and Pattern Energy; and Founder and CEO of Big Wind Energy Corporation, advancing public-purpose financing that unlocks renewable infrastructure, creates new non-tax revenue opportunities, and strengthens the financial resilience of municipalities and Indigenous Nations across North America
