K'ómoks First Nation
Land Acknowledgement
With profound gratitude, I acknowledge that I have had the privilege of building my life on the unceded ancestral territory of the K'ómoks First Nation. The Comox Valley is the place that raised me. It is where generations of my family have lived, worked, and found purpose. Here, my great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, siblings, and I were sustained by the abundance of these lands and waters. Here, I was educated, built my life, married, raised my family, and today those same lands and waters continue to sustain my children and grandchildren.
Throughout that journey, my family and I have been profoundly enriched by the enduring presence, generosity, and culture of the K'ómoks people. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to know and learn from K'ómoks Elders, Chiefs, Councillors, and Indigenous friends whose wisdom, dignity, and leadership have shaped not only who I have become, but the character of the community we are fortunate to call home. To my K'ómoks friends with whom I grew up, thank you. Your friendship challenged me to preserve and make positive and lasting contributions to this community. To those who have walked on, your lives continue to guide all who knew and loved you. Until we meet again.
This community is stronger, wiser, and more compassionate because the K'ómoks people have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial. Their stewardship has enriched every generation that has followed, including my own. For that enduring gift, I offer my deepest respect, heartfelt gratitude, and lasting friendship. I stand beside the K'ómoks First Nation, not only in words, but in responsibility. I honour its people, its culture, its teachings, and its enduring connection to these lands and waters.
May we measure our success not by what we take from this place, but by what we leave behind: a community that is more respectful, compassionate, and connected. The greatest honour of my life is that I have been welcomed into a place shaped by the wisdom, resilience, and generosity of the K'ómoks people. For that gift, I will always be grateful. May we remember whose footsteps came before ours. May we walk gently upon this land. And may our actions honour the trust placed in us by the K'ómoks people.
